Salpingo-Oophorectomy

A salpingo-oophorectomy is a surgical procedure that is performed by gynaecologists and trained medical experts for the treatment of various conditions affecting the fallopian tubes and the ovaries. 

This surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, which means you will be asleep during the procedure. Once you are in a sleep state, your surgeon makes incisions to access the ovaries. The size of the incision depends upon the type of technique used for the removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. 

This surgery can be performed through the following methods :

• Abdominal Surgery: This technique is the traditional method used for the removal of fallopian tubes and ovaries. Under this, the surgeon makes a large incision in the abdomen to have a direct view and remove the organs through it.
• Laparoscopic Surgery: It is a minimally invasive way to perform salpingo-oophorectomy. In this procedure, the surgeon uses a laparoscope, a thin medical instrument with a camera at the end to view the internal organs and then remove the fallopian tubes and ovaries through small incisions.
• Robotic Surgery: It is an advanced and minimally invasive way used for the removal of the fallopian tubes and the ovaries. This surgical procedure is the same as laparoscopic; the only difference is that this procedure uses robotic arms for enhanced precision.
